Last Sunday (May 13, 2012 3: 30 PM), we were saddened to know that eleven of my Igorot bothers and sisters were killed as a jeepney (not minibus or bus Yahoo Philippines) they were riding fell down into a 150-meter high ravine in Upper Balikyang, Bontoc, Mountain Province.

The poor victims died of multiple injuries. We pray that they  rest in peace as our government agencies are doing what they are obliged to do.  Fourteen were reported to have luckily escaped the tragedy.

According to reports, 30 passengers were riding the jeep with a plate number ACZ- 135. The driver, Donnie Dulawan, lost control of the vehicle causing the loss of lives of his passengers who were going home to Dalican, Bontoc. Dulawan is one of the survivors and is now under the custody of the police.

My theory is that the jeep was overloaded with passengers. The jeep was not able to manage the weight of everyone, given the quality of the road.

This tragedy was not caused by the corruption in the government or by the absence of prayers before starting the drive. It was not caused by me for heckling, too.

Rest in peace my folks! Till we meet again.
