A true friend Chelsea “Chotiyan” Likigan Afidchao returned to our Creator, leaving a few hearts seriously devastated. The very sad news, which drained all my energy last week, made me realize that death knows no age.

Chot was only 19.

Her youthful face will never age in our hearts. She will be remembered as a 19-year old buddy, with no wrinkles and white hair. She is blessed; her appearance will be young forever.

In her 19 years of staying with us, she had authored stories full of spectacle and foolishness. I made her a speech script a year ago when she was still studying at the University of the Cordilleras. We had drinking sessions on the veranda; we had terrific times pumping water from a well.

Chot had no enemy at all. She had a signature shout. She never complained about life. And most importantly, she never protested against people who mistakenly identified her as gay. She was totally splendid.

She is now in heaven. She is now with her grandparents and other loved ones who also bid goodbye to us earlier.

Goodbye Chotiyan, till we meet again! We will always remember you, and your signature shout. Now that you’re gone, we will continue drinking the unfinished bottle of gin!

This September is the 10th death anniversary of my aunt Carol Lizardo- Alonzo. She died on a Friday, when I was in first year high school. I remember her curly hair and her Pringles!

This month is also the first death anniversary of an uncle. Uncle Marion Lizardo Lardizabal died when I was still reviewing for my board exam. After finishing the board exam, I went to his wake. He was buried the next day. The board results were super positive! Bad news today, good news tomorrow!

A song for them.....
