2012 has been a productive and competitive year for TV stations in the Philippines. Our TV stations have been striving hard to provide us quality, entertaining and informative shows that help in making our lives more comfortable and meaningful.

For the award, there are only three major qualified stations that most of us watch, from sunrise to sunset.

1.    ABS-CBN Channel 2 or the Kapamilya Network
2.    GMA Channel 7 or the Kapuso Network
3.    TV 5 Channel 5 or the Kapatid Network

In picking which among the three is the best TV station of the year, I have my own criteria. And I have a winner for each criterion. The TV station with the highest number of total points will be what I am voting for, for the award.

1.
Most Viewed TV Channel At Home (and By Neighbors): ABS-CBN 2

When I was younger I was always tuned in to ABS-CBN. The only reason was that the station had a better reception on our TV in Sagada, Mountain Province. Now that I am living in another area (La Trinidad-Baguio City) and my interest in watching TV has softened a bit, I am still tuned in to ABS-CBN. However, I shift channel to GMA 7, TV 5 and ETC  to see some must-watch shows (like Glee and 24 Oras), but most of the time I remain a Kapamilya.

2.    Superior Quality TV Series and Entertainment Shows: ABS-CBN 2

Let’s talk about quality. Walang Hanggan of ABS-CBN 2 seems to be the best TV series this year (or shall I say this decade). Its plot is fast-paced which is appropriate nowadays, and the collection of actors in the series has the best acting skills. I also love other shows of ABS-CBN like Showtime, Princess and I, and the legendary Maalaala Mo Kaya. On the other hand, GMA 7 needs to work on developing the acting skills of its talents. The station has been losing talented actors to the Kapamilya station. The only pride GMA 7 holds is Eat Bulaga.

3.    Credible News Reporting and Production: GMA 7

During the height of the issue on the impeachment of former Supreme Chief Justice Renato Corona, GMA 7 excelled in bringing credible news stories. GMA News always gives the real story, with no color. Unlike ABS-CBN News which is obvious to be working under the spell of the president. As of now, I do not give a damn to Anthony Taberna’s analyses. I would rather watch Teddy Locsin on ANC.

4.    Employee Handling and Relations: GMA 7

GMA 7 is best when it comes to taking good care of its employees. I have never heard of any issue between the management and its employees. Even if a talent is not that skillful, we can still see this talent doing more shows. In the ABS-CBN house, talents with no better-quality skills do nor get further gigs from the station. I have some friends working for GMA 7 and it seems they are super happy with the network.

5.    Charity and Community Relations: GMA 7

The GMA Kapuso Foundation has been there helping the unfortunate ones. It first spearheaded a project in our community. It gave away bags and school supplies to kids. Days after, ABS-CBN Foundation came and gave the kids a building. I do not like to compare which of the two networks is richer or poorer. One of the most disappointing move that ABS-CBN did was the airing of a TV commercial that aims to stop mining in Palawan. The station should not be making a mess with the political issue because when mines are closed, ABS-CBN Foundation cannot provide work to thousands of miners all over the country.

6.    Programming and Advertising: ABS-CBN 2

Obviously, ABS-CBN has more advertisers than of GMA 7 or of TV 5. Most of the time, the two latter-mentioned stations play its in-house advertisements that I hate watching.

7.    Local and International Awards Count

Obviously, ABS-CBN has more awards than the other networks. During the recently-concluded Star Awards for TV, the Kapamilya station won in the tally of awards (as always). Even when it comes to international awards, ABS-CBN/TFC has been  bagging trophies of excellence.

TALLY:
ABS-CBN 2: 4
GMA 7: 3
TV 5: 0

And my winner for the Blogger's Choice for the Most Favorite TV Station 2012 is is ABS-CBN 2. One vote for the Kapamilya network from me!
