Sagada, a known tourist destination in Mountain Province, is wrapped with horror since last week after Tayno Saturnino “Elmo” Panoyo was assassinated on October 30.

According to police reports, the 44-year old PUJ driver from Bangaan in northern Sagada was hired by his assassin to drive to Besao (10 kilometers west of Sagada) at around 5 PM.

The unidentified suspect shot Panoyo several times, but left the victim’s nine year old child unharmed. Police recovered seven bullet shells in the crime scene.

Before the shooting, the suspect asked Panoyo to stop along the road above Lake Danum so the suspect could urinate. Upon returning, the shooting happened in front of the child.

After the suspect fled, the bleeding Panoyo managed to drive towards Besao until his vehicle turned upside down along the way.

A jeepney bound to Besao reached Panoyo’s vehicle and found him and his son hiding in the bushes. Panoyo was brought to Besao General Hospital but was declared dead on arrival at 6:30 PM.

Sagada police is conducting an investigation to identify the suspect and the reason behind the crime. Police has already ruled out robbery since no possession of the driver was found missing in the crime scene.

Meanwhile, Sagada people took to Facebook to call for justice for the victim.
