When the Commission on Elections (COMELEC) proclaimed 12-newly elected Senators, some people are questioning the government agency for pushing through with the proclamation even without getting the 100% results of the senatorial election.

The first person who was against the proclamation was UNA’s Tobby Tiangco. He should have got his hair dyed with different colors so people of the Philippines would support  his complaint.

According to COMELEC, an analysis using the number of Filipinos who actually voted (not registered voters) was used to conclude who among the candidates made it to the Magic 12. Now, I know why the list is called MAGIC!

Because no one was able to prove that COMELEC is wrong in doing this move, a few people surfaced to demand for the resignation of the agency’s head Sixto Brilliantes. Last resort moves I say. And everyone reacted: “resign na naman?”. Vice Ganda would have said “paulit-ulit, unlimited?”

Of course President Benigno S. (no longer C.) Aquino is supporting Brilliantes just like how he supported his sister Kris Aquino when the host-actress experienced unending marital problems.

With the results, many are still shocked. They cannot accept the fact that the majority of us defies their preferences.

Let’s take a look at why some people won, and why others lost.

1.    Grace Poe: ABS-CBN, the king maker, aired her story via the country’s top drama anthology Maalaala Mo Kaya. Who would not love her story if it was our beloved Charo Santo-Concio who was narrating the Once Upon A Time thingy!

2.    Loren Legarda: Before the casting of votes, her New York condo became controversial. Her supporters were so worried she would lose the elections. So they moved and showed more love to her. And she won!

3.    Alan Peter Cayetano: He was the innocent Senator who never tainted his sweet name in debates and TV appearances. He is a classic example of a “lesser evil” candidate. Any questions?

4.    Chiz Escudero: He was sure he will win because of his previous standing. He is unbeatable; thanks to his appearances on Kris TV. He has got the heart of the Filipino people (but not the heart of Heart’s parents).

5.    Nancy Binay: All the below-the-belt attacks against her materialized. She was able to gain the sympathy of the majority of us. She is a mother and we need a motherly figure. She never tainted her name; she never attacked her attackers (no to revenge, Makati knows nothing about it). She founded her name as a good person- thanks again to the power of TV advertising.

Now, we have no choice but to support our new senators. No more, no less.
